Enjoying life

Heaven prefers life, it´s true.
Every creature loves its life
and wants to stay alive.
If we want to see
our hundreth birthday.
Do not shorten
the lifespan of others.

Bai Juyi (Tang Dynasty)

This is a book for free distribution. I've taken it in a Buddhist temple. On the back cover shows the address of a website and I think it is fair to inform of it. I have written to those behind the website to request permission to publish some of the poems in the book.

The website is www.drba.org

The Kind-heartred Hermit.

Around this lonely mountain top myriad peaks revolve,
I´ve come to cultivate ascetic´s disciplined resolve,
I´ve taken my broom and sweep away
the deer´s tracks in the snow;
The deer passed by, but in the morning,
hunters will not know.

Poem on stopping kiliing.

The embrance of Nature gathers in alike
all creatures in water, land and air;
Imagine if you boiled in the cooking pot - -
The terror they feel would scald your bones, too!

Exhortation to Vegetarian Eating.

In autumn, frost and dew cover our eastern fields:
We harvest mustard greens and turnips galore;
My friend and I already ate our fill,
Why bring pain to chickens and pigs?
