Much of the information about vegetarian and vegan diets for athletes is based on fear. "Where are do you get your protein?" By cutting animal products out of your diet, the thinking goes, you are diminishing your nutrition. This was the opposite of Bradley's experience and the findings of many reknowed doctors, nutritionists, and health professionals. Bradley thought, "Shouldn't there be an organization that teaches athletes of all ages and abilities about the benefits of a plant-based diet, unites them as a community, and inspires them with athletic example?"

(The organization has grown from a small group of athletes to over 600 members today).

The Vegetarian Cycling & Athletic Club (http://www.vcac.vegfolk.co.uk/index.html)
Established 1888

We are a national club including runners, cyclists, triathletes & walkers. The Club, whose primary activities are competitive cycling and athletics, also welcomes vegetarians and vegans from other sports or physical activities. Second claim members are most welcome.

Over our 100+ year history there have been many champion racing cyclists and athletes of a high standard. If you are a keen racing cyclist or athlete please join us. By competing for the club at any standard you will help to draw the public's attention to our cause of a more humane society. Let us put an end to the myth that meat is necessary for either health or sporting achievement, by disproving it again and again.

The Club is also affiliated to The Vegetarian Society

Teamvegan (http://www.teamvegan.net.nz/)

Team Vegan is a group of vegans who like to play. We like to run, hike, compete in triathlons, cycle, swim, whatever, so long as it involves exercise and pain! We want to look cool and fit (although some of us are a lost cause) and spread the word that vegans aren’t all about to drop over from lack of energy!

Our membership base is diverse, from the super-fit who regularly compete in events like triathlons, cycle races, marathons and New Zealand's infamous Coast to Coast, to those who are just starting out or who simply want to participate in social and fun events with other vegans.

Today Team Vegan has around 45 members nationwide. Our goal is simple, we want to raise the visibility of vegan sportspeople, promote health and fitness within the vegan community and help dispel negative vegan stereotypes by showing what a fit energetic bunch we really are!

Vegan Runners UK (http://www.veganrunners.makessense.co.uk/index.html)

Vegan Runners UK was launched at the London Vegan Festival on 4 July 2004 for vegans of all running abilities to raise awareness of veganism throughout the UK and provide a focus group for current vegans with an interest in running. Members would participate in open events of their own choice as advertised in the athletics / running magazines. A sister organisation The Vegetarian Cycling & Athletic Club (VC&AC founded in 1888) has been the only alternative for vegan runners prior to the formation of the new club but its name has made it inherently difficult to raise the profile of veganism in the sport.

La página, por cierto, es: http://www.dragonecologista.com.ar/

Vegansport (http://www.vegansport.org/)

We are endurance athletes who live and promote a compassionate way of life. We are cyclists, runners, triathletes, mountain climbers, etc. who live with the understanding that animals are sentient beings who feel pain and are not ours to abuse or consume. Our overall goal is to create awareness of animal abuse and exploitation. Additionally, we feel that a vegan lifestyle is not only healthy for the body, conscience and our planet, but the best place to begin for total animal liberation as well.

Animals are not ours to exploit, consume or abuse. We want to be an example as healthy athletes and use this opportunity to share our message.
